Junior Associate (International Dispute Resolution) @ Hillmont Partners

Hillmont Partners, a British-Ukrainian law firm, is looking for an early-career lawyer to join its International Dispute Resolution practice as a Junior Associate.

We represent Ukrainian and international clients in international commercial arbitration, cross-border disputes, and the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards and judgments.

Key responsibilities

• Supporting the team on international commercial arbitrations (ICC, LCIA, SCC and UNCITRAL) at every stage, from the request for arbitration through to final hearings.
• Preparing first drafts of procedural documents in English — claims, defences, memorials and witness statements — under the supervision of senior colleagues.
• Conducting legal research into Ukrainian and foreign law and arbitral practice, and preparing memoranda setting out the findings.
• Assisting with the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards and court judgments in Ukraine.
• Reviewing case documents and preparing chronologies, evidence bundles and exhibit indexes.
• Assisting with correspondence with foreign counsel, experts and arbitral institutions.
• Monitoring procedural deadlines, maintaining case files and keeping internal records up to date.

Main requirements

• Law degree from a reputable Ukrainian university (an LL.M., completed or in progress, in International Arbitration or International Commercial Law would be a significant advantage).
• One to three years’ experience in dispute resolution at a law firm; exposure to international arbitration or cross-border disputes, including through a traineeship, would be an advantage.
• Strong legal research and writing skills, including the ability to work with foreign-language sources and legal databases.
• Fluent English, to a standard sufficient for drafting and correspondence with foreign counsel, and fluent Ukrainian.
• Sound knowledge of Ukrainian civil and commercial procedure; familiarity with the rules of leading arbitral institutions and the New York Convention would be an advantage.
• Admission to the Bar of Ukraine, or steps taken towards admission, would be an advantage.
• Participation in international arbitration moots (Vis Moot, FDI Moot and similar) would be an advantage.
• Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines across several matters simultaneously.
