PEJ was founded in 2016 by Cynthia Tai, a former international lawyer who witnessed firsthand the barriers that prevent survivors of atrocity crimes from accessing justice and accountability.

​PEJ strives to surmount these obstacles and make the dream of universal justice a reality. Since then, we have experienced exponential growth as partners around the world reach out to seek PEJ’s support.

​Using hybrid teams of local and international experts, we work to end gross human rights abuses such as mass rape, ethnic cleansing, and genocide. By standing with survivors, building local justice networks, and holding perpetrators to account, we help empower people everywhere to live in freedom and peace.
